Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). When she moved to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma attended the Dragon School. Emma was just six when she made the decision to pursue a career as an actress. She studied for a number of years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part time theatre school in Oxford where she studied acting and singing. Rowling's bestselling British novel began casting in 1999. Emma was discovered as a casting agent through her Oxford teacher of drama. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through 8 consecutive auditions. Emma's debut on the big screen came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, released in 2001. It was the highest-grossing film of 2001, the film set records for its opening day revenue as well as opening weekend takings. The film was praised by critics and the performances of the three leading young actors. The Daily Telegraph in Britain and the Daily Telegraph in America, widely read the newspaper, described her performance as outstanding. Emma received five awards for her performance in the movie.
